How these numbers are made
  • Property tax uses the 2025 Imperial County multi-year rate book for tax rate area 002-000: the 1% levy plus Calexico Unified and Imperial Community College bond rates (total 1.2559%); the 2026-27 book was not published yet. The City of Calexico has no ad valorem rate in this tax rate area.
  • Starting value is the Census median market value; Prop 13 assessed values are often lower. Direct charges on individual tax bills were not found in county sources and are not included.
  • Water is the City's existing residential rates from its June 5, 2024 rate study: $18.66 a month for the first dwelling unit plus $2.15 per 100 cubic feet. Council voted down the proposed increases on October 2, 2024, so these remain the rates in effect; the City's current water rate page was not found.
  • Sewer is the existing flat $44.23 a month for the first dwelling unit from the same rate study (it reproduces the study's $97.29 combined bill at 1,600 cubic feet).
  • Trash is $26.84 a month for one refuse, recycling and green waste cart, the maximum rate adopted effective February 1, 2026.
  • Electricity is IID Schedule D with the 2.85% surcharge; gas is SoCalGas average usage-based estimate; insurance is the California state average.
  • The rate study's typical single-family bill assumes 1,600 cubic feet (16 ccf) a month; the bill estimate here uses the page's own water-use setting, not that figure.
  • Nothing here is legal, tax or insurance advice.

Cities bill differently (some put trash on the tax bill, some cover more services), so a higher number isn't necessarily worse. The property tax rate is compared instead of dollars because house values differ.
