  • 100% disabled veterans: property tax exemption$100,000+ off assessed value

How: File form BOE-261-G, Claim for Disabled Veterans' Property Tax Exemption, with the county assessor.

  • Seniors, blind or disabled: property tax postponementDefer property taxes

How these numbers are made
  • Water: the City's July 1, 2025 rates: $29.00 a month flat for a single-family home covers the first 25,000 gallons, then $1.72 per 1,000 gallons. The starting use stays inside the 25,000-gallon allowance.
  • Sewer: the City's online page says it has not published a current sewer schedule; we use the residential rate its June 2021 rate study scheduled for FY 2025/26, $51.03 per unit (a per-unit monthly charge). Finance at (209) 394-8041 can confirm.
  • Garbage: $35.25 a month for 1 black and 1 green can, effective April 1, 2024 (Gilton Solid Waste, billed by the City).
  • Property tax: Merced County 2026-27 rates for tax rate areas 003-001 to 003-024 (the City of Livingston areas, all 1.0417% in total): 1% countywide plus 0.0188% Livingston USD, 0.0114% Merced Union High and 0.0115% Merced College bonds, less the $7,000 homeowners' exemption. The starting value is the Census ACS 2020-2024 median market value; under Prop 13 a long-time owner's assessed value is lower. Direct charges on individual tax bills are not included.
  • Energy is a year-round estimate on PG&E's standard tiered plans (same method as nearby Atwater): per-day charges and baselines converted to monthly, seasonal weighting, typical use from EIA. Homes served by Merced Irrigation District pay MID's rates instead. Insurance is the 2022 California average premium (NAIC via III).
