How these numbers are made
  • Individual bills are confidential in California, so we calculate yours from public rates and what you tell us.
  • Water: Indio Water Authority's rates in effect since January 1, 2026 (Resolution 10489, 2025 rate study): $24.27 a month for a 3/4-inch meter (the size on most IWA accounts; a 5/8-inch meter is $16.95), plus $1.07 per CCF in Tier 1 and $1.46 in Tier 2, each with CVWD's $0.20 Replenishment Assessment added ($1.27 and $1.66). Tier 1 is the indoor budget, 8 CCF a month for a single-family home at IWA's default of 4 people; Tier 2 is an outdoor budget IWA sets for each home from its irrigable area and weather, so we price everything above 8 CCF at Tier 2. Use above your total budget is Tier 3 ($2.45 + $0.20), which we do not model. The 6% City Utility Tax is added. We start at 21 CCF a month, IWA's projected residential use divided by residential bills in its rate study (5,781,551 CCF over 275,184 bills). Some homes in north Indio are served by the Coachella Valley Water District instead.
  • Sewer: Valley Sanitary District's single-family charge for 2026-27 (Resolution 2026-1204, adopted May 12, 2026), $557.47 a year plus $1.60 per HCF of winter average water use; at the 179 HCF a year the District's rate presentation uses for an average single-family home, that is $843.87 a year. Homes outside VSD's area are sewered by CVWD or on septic and pay differently. Trash: Burrtec residential tax-roll service (the City's staff report names a tax-roll rate and a direct-bill rate; we show the tax-roll rate and do not count it in the property tax bill total) at $28.99 a month from July 15, 2026 (Resolution 10598, adopted July 15, 2026); direct-billed homes pay $35.01.
  • Property tax: Riverside County's 2026-27 rates (Resolution 2026-153, adopted August 25, 2026) for tax rate area 007-000 (Indio): the 1% levy, Desert Sands Unified (0.075%), Desert Community College (0.035%) and CVWD's State Water Project rate (0.11%), 1.22% in total, less the $7,000 homeowners' exemption, applied to the value you enter. 100 of the 106 Indio tax rate areas in the County's district list have these same rates; the other 6 are in Coachella Valley Unified (0.09719% instead of 0.075%). The starting value is the Census median market value; under Prop 13 a home's assessed value can be far lower.
  • Fixed charges on the tax bill: the Coachella Valley Mosquito and Vector Control District's assessment ($14.39 per single-family home in Zone A, FY 2026-27), plus the sewer line above. Not included because they apply only to some homes: the public-safety CFDs 2004-1 and 2004-2 ($556.55 a year in 2026-27, 9,625 parcels levied, mostly homes built since 2004), the 52 Landscaping and Lighting Maintenance Districts (6,397 parcels levied, applied rates $6.08 to $867.66), and the Mello-Roos CFDs for Terra Lago, Talavera and Sonora Wells (based on each home's square footage). Your tax bill lists them.
  • Electricity: IID's Schedule D residential rate effective January 1, 2026 ($11.40 a month plus 22.30 cents per kWh, the same all year), with IID's 2.85% public benefits charge applied to both ($11.72 plus 22.94 cents per kWh) and the Energy Cost Adjustment at zero as IID's rate update states; we start at IID's 1,070 kWh monthly residential average. Gas: SoCalGas's August 2026 average non-CARE bill ($68.91 at 35 therms), taken as including the $0.16-a-day customer charge (about $4.87 a month), so $4.87 a month plus $1.830 per therm. Indio's 6% utility users tax is added to electricity, gas and water. Insurance starts at the 2022 California average.
