How these numbers are made
- Individual bills are not public, so we calculate yours from public rates and what you tell us.
- Garbage (Escondido Disposal, Inc.): $32.87 a month, the residential fee on the City of Escondido's rates page (listed with the page note 12.30.25, not an effective date) for one 65-gallon trash cart with up to three recycling and three organics carts.
- Water (City of Escondido, Resolution 2023-131, volumetric rates effective January 1, 2026; the $1.82 MWD line effective July 1, 2026): the $67.71 water service charge on each bill for a 5/8-inch or 3/4-inch meter (the City's $60.54 plus the MWD readiness-to-serve charge $1.82 and SDCWA pass-throughs $5.35), then $11.00, $12.32 and $13.05 per 1,000 gallons in three tiers (0-7k, 7-14k, over 14k gallons per 30 days). The City does not publish a typical household use, so the page starts at its default.
- Sewer: $7.32 a month plus $9.81 per 1,000 gallons of estimated wastewater (July 1, 2026 rates). The City bills the flow charge on each customer's 2022/23 winter-average water use, capped at 10,000 gallons a month for single-family homes; we apply it to the water use you enter, capped at 10,000 gallons.
- Property tax: 1.14011% of assessed value (tax rate area 04000, fiscal year 2025-26; the 2026-27 rate book is not out yet): 1% general levy, 0.03824% Escondido Union and 0.02868% Escondido Union High bonds, 0.01903% Palomar Community College, 0.031% Palomar Health, 0.01616% City of Escondido Prop P and 0.007% Metropolitan Water District, less the $7,000 homeowners' exemption. 208 of the roughly 260 Escondido tax rate areas are at this rate. The starting value is the Census median market value; under Prop 13 your assessed value is likely lower if you bought years ago. Not included: Mello-Roos or other direct charges that apply to only some parcels.
- Electricity: Clean Energy Alliance's comparison for a typical TOU-DR1 customer, $172.56 a month at 346 kWh on Clean Impact Plus (rates as of August 1, 2026, averaged over seasons and time-of-use periods), split into SDG&E's $0.79343 a day Base Services Charge ($24.13 a month) and $0.42898 per kWh. Gas: SDG&E's March 2026 average non-CARE bill of $65.08 for 24 therms, entered as $2.7117 a therm with no fixed charge (a derived figure: gas commodity rates change monthly and this is March 2026). Insurance starts at the 2022 California average premium, $1,492.
