How these numbers are made
  • Property tax: tax rate area 02730 (5,381 of the 7,421 single-family parcels, from the LA County parcel layer), 1.0113551% (the Claremont Unified rate is read from a scan whose 0.018855 digit prints as 0.01885, so the rate used is 5 ten-millionths lower) for 2026-27: 1% general levy plus Claremont Unified (four bond series), Mt. San Antonio College and Metropolitan Water District debt rates adopted by the Board of Supervisors. That 02730 carries exactly these three districts was not confirmed from a rate book.
  • Water: Golden State Water Claremont system, Schedule R3-1-R effective Jan 1, 2026; each tier rate plus the $0.147 CAP surcharge and the $0.0060 M-WRAM/ICBA surcharge per Ccf. The $0.408 and $0.264 per Ccf surcharges that end around Oct 2026 and the Schedule UF reimbursement fee are not included. The city is also partly served by other systems; check your bill.
  • Sewer, trash and street sweeping: the City of Claremont rates effective July 1, 2025 (the 2025 notice), which stay current through December 2026. The city has proposed new sewer, trash and street sweeping rates from January 1, 2027 (public hearing September 22, 2026); whether the council adopted them was not found, so these rates may rise on January 1, 2027. The notice gives sewer as one amount per single-family residence with no period; it is treated as a yearly charge on the city bill, $79.58 / 12 per month.
  • The total leaves out a city utility tax that Claremont bills on utility accounts. No current rate for electric, gas or water could be found on a city page or in the municipal code, so none is added and the page total excludes this tax, understating a household's utility spend.
  • Electricity and gas use the same SCE and SoCalGas figures as other LA County cities; Claremont is also in Clean Power Alliance territory, whose default Clean Power plan totals the same $0.37392 per kWh. Flat county charges besides Measure W are not included. SoCalGas's fixed charge is dated September 2025 and gas commodity rates change monthly. Insurance is the 2022 California statewide average, not a Claremont figure, and older than the other inputs.
