How these numbers are made
- Individual bills are not public, so we calculate yours from public rates and what you tell us.
- Garbage (EDCO): $24.27 for the 35-gallon cart and $33.39 for the 95-gallon cart, the rates the City lists as effective July 1, 2026 for customers billed directly.
- Water (City of Poway, rates from January 21, 2026): the bimonthly 5/8-inch meter charge of $81.54 is halved to a monthly figure; the uniform rate is $8.21 per unit. Poway bills every two months; one unit is about 748 gallons, treated here as 1 CCF.
- Sewer: the bimonthly fixed charge of $33.36 is halved. The single-family commodity charge is $5.30 per unit on 85% of lowest winter water use (flow not to exceed 24 units a bimonthly bill). We treat your monthly use as winter use, so the calculator uses $4.505 (5.30 x 0.85) per unit of use, with the cap at 14.12 units of use a month (12 billed units); your actual charge depends on your own winter use.
- Property tax: tax rate area 17001 in the County's FY 2025-26 rate book (total 1.12809, shared by most Poway tax rate areas): 1% + Poway Unified bonds .03594 + .01112 + .024 and Palomar College .01903 (school tax total .09009) + Palomar Health Prop BB .031 + MWD .007. Poway parcels may also carry city direct charges (fire protection special tax, roadway lighting, landscape districts) and a county radio equipment charge; their amounts could not be sourced per parcel, so they are not included. Check the direct charges on your bill.
- Electricity and gas: SDG&E bundled rates, 400 kWh and 24 therms a month, electric is SDG&E's April 2026 TOU-DR1 average bundled bill of $194 less the $24.13 base charge over 400 kWh; gas is the March 2026 typical non-CARE bill of $65.08 less the $3.95 fixed charge over 24 therms. Insurance: $1,492 is the 2022 California statewide average, the newest figure we could source; premiums have likely changed since.
- The CARE 20% discount is quoted from SDG&E's natural gas rate notice.
