How these numbers are made
  • Garbage: Recology Sonoma Marin's Rohnert Park single-family rates effective July 1, 2026, monthly: $17.93 for a 20-gallon garbage cart, $32.86 for 32 gallons, $51.34 for 64 gallons and $80.14 for 96 gallons, with recycling and compost free of charge. The page starts at the 32-gallon cart. Recology bills garbage separately from the City's water and sewer bill.
  • Water and sewer: City of Rohnert Park rates effective July 1, 2026, billed monthly. Water: $42.62 fixed service charge for a meter up to 1 inch plus $0.005136 a gallon for the first 3,000 gallons and $0.007106 above, entered here as $5.136 and $7.106 per thousand gallons. The page starts at 6,200 gallons (about 8.3 CCF), the City's average single-family use in its 2025 rate notice. Sewer: $19.96 base plus $14.52 per thousand gallons, billed on the household's winter average (sewer cap). Because we do not know your winter average, we charge the flow charge on your water use up to 6,000 gallons, the City's typical sewer cap for a household of 3; the City's table runs from 2,000 gallons for 1 person to 12,000 for 6. We found no City stormwater fee on the utility bill, and the City's FY 2026-27 adopted budget names its General Fund revenue sources as sales, property and transient occupancy taxes, franchise fees and others, with no tax on utility bills, so none is added.
  • Property tax: Sonoma County 2026-27 rates for tax rate area 007-003, read from a 2026-27 secured tax bill for a home there: 1% Prop 13 rate, 0.007% Warm Springs Dam/Russian River Project, 0.105% Cotati-Rohnert Park Unified bonds (2014, 2016 and 2024) and 0.027% Sonoma County Junior College bonds (2002 and 2014), 1.139% in all, less the $7,000 homeowners' exemption. TRA 007-003 has the most homeowners' exemptions of any Rohnert Park tax rate area in the county's 2026 code area recap (about 2,340 of some 5,100 citywide); the other large areas we sampled (007-006, 007-007) carry the same rates. Flat charges on that bill: Cotati-Rohnert Park Unified parcel tax $89, Rohnert Park Fire 2000 $42.62, Marin/Sonoma mosquito $12 and SF Bay Restoration Authority $12 ($155.62 in all). The fire and mosquito charges were the same on the other detached homes we checked but differ on some condominiums and larger parcels. Not included because they apply only to some neighborhoods: community facilities district charges such as SOMO Village's.
  • The starting home value is the Census ACS 2020-2024 median market value of owner-occupied homes ($666,300); under Prop 13 an owner who bought years ago has a lower assessed value and pays less. Enter the net taxable value from your tax bill.
  • Electricity: PG&E schedule E-1 (June 1, 2026) for a non-CARE (Income Tier 3) home with Sonoma Clean Power CleanStart generation. Delivery is PG&E's E-1 total rate ($0.32561 Tier 1, $0.40702 Tier 2) minus its $0.12855 generation charge and its ($0.01011) Bundled PCIA, which CCA customers do not pay; to that we add SCP's September 1, 2026 CleanStart E1 rate ($0.08099) and the $0.03745 PCIA and franchise fee from the PG&E-SCP comparison (PG&E rates as of March 1, 2026), which comes back to $0.32561 and $0.40702 per kWh. PG&E's $0.79343 a day base services charge is a separate fixed charge ($24.13 a month). The baseline is territory X's 9.8 kWh a day for the 4 summer months and 9.7 for the 8 winter months, about 296 kWh a month: PG&E's tariff puts only a described portion of Sonoma County bounded by the Pacific shoreline in territory T and all other parts in X, and Rohnert Park lies inland, east of that portion. The PCIA depends on the year an account moved to SCP, so the comparison's value may differ from a given account. Not included: PG&E's semi-annual California Climate Credit.
  • Gas: PG&E G-1 (Oct. 1, 2026) $2.42480 and $2.92792 per therm plus the $0.12103 public purpose surcharge, territory X baseline weighted 7 summer, 3 off-peak and 2 on-peak months, about 30 therms a month. Typical use is PG&E's 2024 residential average (EIA, about 500 kWh a month) and California's 2024 residential gas average (EIA, about 32 therms a month). Insurance is the 2022 California average homeowners premium (NAIC via the Insurance Information Institute) until you enter your own.
