How these numbers are made
  • Water: the city's adopted rate schedule (Resolution 2023-62) for the cycle beginning January 1, 2026: $22.80 a month for a 3/4-inch meter plus $4.41 per 1,000 gallons in Zone 1 (the lowest zone), shown as $3.30 per CCF (4.41 x 0.748). Valley Water groundwater pass-through increases and the other pressure zones are not included. The adopted schedule's next step (January 1, 2027) is $24.16 base and $4.68 in Zone 1; sewer $57.45. Zone 1 is the lowest of three zones; the share of homes in each zone is not known. The default water use is the page's fallback of 9 CCF, not a sourced Gilroy typical.
  • Sewer: the single-family flat monthly charge of $55.24 from the same schedule; no use-based sewer charge.
  • Tax: 2025-26 rates for tax rate area 002-001, the largest Gilroy area by parcels (64%) per californiapropertytools.com. The parts include the Gilroy Unified 2002 bond (0.0233%), so they add up to the rate book's 1.2147% total (the total excludes the state water project, which is listed separately). Flat charges: Valley Water, vector control and Measure AA. Other city or school direct charges, and any bond measures passed since, are not included.
  • Electricity: PG&E E-1 tier rates swapped from PG&E generation to SVCE GreenStart generation (0.32561 - 0.12855 + 0.01011 + 0.08006 + 0.03720). Gas: PG&E G-1 plus surcharge.
  • Garbage: the franchise agreement's rates effective December 1, 2022 are the latest published; treat them as a floor, since Recology adjusts them and the real bill is likely higher. Insurance is a 2022 statewide figure. The tax total uses the Census market median as the default value, not an assessed value.
