How these numbers are made
- Property tax uses Cook County's 2025 agency rates for tax code 23015 (Village of Wilmette, School District 39, New Trier Township High School District 203, Wilmette Park District and library; total 6.365137 per $100 of equalized assessed value). Codes with District 37 or 38 schools or no park district differ. Forest Preserve, elections, New Trier Township and mosquito abatement are grouped as other districts.
- The starting value is the Assessor's 2025 median estimated market value for New Trier Township single-family homes ($1,186,000) times 10% times the 2025 Cook County equalization factor 3.0300; the $10,000 Homeowner Exemption comes off it.
- Water $2.75 and sewer $4.40 per 100 cubic feet are the Village's current rates (the proposed 2027 budget would change them). The quarterly 5/8-inch meter fee of $0.67 is spread over 3 months. The stormwater fee uses Tier 2 ($265 a year); Tier 1 is $215 and Tier 3 is $345, set by impervious surface area. The Village publishes no typical use.
- Electricity: ComEd delivery charges plus the October 2026 price to compare, plus the ComEd municipal tax addition for Wilmette (0.569 cents per kWh) and the state tax addition (0.330 cents). Gas: Nicor Rate 1 plus the October 2026 supply cost plus the Wilmette gas use tax of 2.40 cents per therm. Nicor riders and ComEd's monthly price changes are not included.
- Garbage is the Village refuse charge of $28.65 a month. Not included: homeowners insurance (no official Illinois premium survey for Wilmette was found) and yard waste stickers.

| Water | $300 | $872 | lower than 130 of the other 131 Illinois cities we cover |
| Sewer and utility-bill fees | $740 | $535 | higher than 88 of the other 123 Illinois cities we cover |

Cities bill differently (some put trash on the tax bill, some cover more services), so a higher number isn't necessarily worse. The property tax rate is compared instead of dollars because house values differ.
