How these numbers are made
- Property tax uses Cook County's 2025 final rates for tax code 18069 (Hanover Township, Village of Streamwood, School District U-46, Elgin Community College 509, Streamwood Park District, Poplar Creek Public Library District, MWRD; total 8.7204 per $100 of equalized assessed value). Streamwood has dozens of other Cook codes, some with Gail Borden library, Hanover Park or Hoffman Estates park districts or special service areas, and a part in Kane County; code 18069 was used because it covers a large share of homes.
- The starting value is the Assessor's $312,000 Hanover Township median single-family estimate x 10% x the 3.0300 state factor = $94,536, minus the $10,000 homeowner exemption.
- Water and sewer use the Village's combined 2026 rate of $12.20 per 1,000 gallons plus the $15.00 monthly infrastructure fee for meters 5/8" to 1.5", so sewer is shown as zero separately. No Village stormwater fee was found.
- Garbage is the $20.22 monthly single-family rate in effect from July 1, 2024, the latest the Village has published; it covers weekly refuse, recycling and yard waste, billed by Groot.
- Electricity is ComEd's delivery charges plus the October 2026 price to compare, the state tax addition, and the Streamwood franchise cost addition of 2.195%. Gas is Nicor Rate 1 plus the October 2026 supply cost, Streamwood's 3.25 cents per therm gas use tax and its 4.12% gross receipts tax. Riders are not included. Typical use is EIA's Illinois average. Not included: homeowners insurance.

How Streamwood compares
A typical Streamwood house against the 132 Illinois cities we cover, using the same default numbers as the total above.
| Per year | Streamwood | Median | Where it falls |
|---|---|---|---|
| Property tax rate | 8.72% | 8.23% | higher than 81 of the other 131 Illinois cities we cover |
| Water | $1,166 | $872 | higher than 104 of the other 131 Illinois cities we cover |
| Trash | $243 | $283 | lower than 90 of the other 127 Illinois cities we cover |
| Electricity and gas | $2,279 | $2,163 | higher than 108 of the other 131 Illinois cities we cover |
| Total | $11,059 | $11,701 | lower than 76 of the other 131 Illinois cities we cover |
Cities bill differently (some put trash on the tax bill, some cover more services), so a higher number isn't necessarily worse. The property tax rate is compared instead of dollars because house values differ.
