How these numbers are made
- Property tax uses Boone County 2025 final rates for tax code 05005 (Boone County, County Conservation, Rock Valley College 511, School District 100, Ida Library, Historical Museum, Belvidere Park District, Belvidere Township and Township Road, City of Belvidere; total 7.96467 per $100 of equalized assessed value), the Belvidere code with by far the most value in the county's value report (about $458 million of 4.7 billion across codes; the next largest Belvidere code has about $27 million). Rates in the county table are per $100 of value.
- The starting value is one third of the Census median market value ($158,900 / 3), because Illinois taxes equalized assessed value (about one third of market value). The $6,000 general homestead exemption comes off it.
- Water $1.87 and sewer $3.88 per HCF (748 gallons) come from the City's rates page. The annual 3/4 inch meter maintenance fee of $16.15 is spread over 12 months. The City also charges a $13.00 billing fee per bill produced; the City's rates page does not state how often bills go out, but February 2017 council minutes show a November bill and a January bill as the two consecutive billing cycles, so bills are modeled as every two months and each fixed charge is $6.50 / 2 = $3.25 a month (the 2017 cycle may have changed since). No typical water use is published, so the page default is used.
- Trash is Rock River Disposal's $25.35 a month curbside program from the City's June 2024 franchise mailer; later rate changes, if any, are not published by the City.
- Electricity is ComEd single-family without electric space heat ($15.26 + $3.81 + $1.17 a month; per kWh delivery, transmission, rider and supply charges with supply at the Oct 2026-May 2027 Price to Compare). Gas is Nicor Rate 1 ($21.30 a month plus 24.44 cents distribution and the October 2026 gas cost of 33 cents). Other Nicor and ComEd riders, any city gas tax, and homeowners insurance are not included.
- The City also bills an annual meter maintenance fee ($16.15 for a 3/4 inch meter) that is not included here because the City's page does not say which meter size homes use.

Cities bill differently (some put trash on the tax bill, some cover more services), so a higher number isn't necessarily worse. The property tax rate is compared instead of dollars because house values differ.
