How these numbers are made
- Property tax uses Cook County's 2025 agency rates for tax code 21030 (Village of La Grange and its library fund, School District 102, Lyons Township High School 204, College of DuPage, La Grange Park District, MWRD; total 9.0803 per $100 of equalized assessed value). Elections, Forest Preserve, Lyons Township, road and bridge and mosquito abatement are grouped as other districts.
- The starting value is the Assessor's median 2025 board value for Lyons Township single-family homes ($33,001) times the 2025 equalization factor 3.0300; it is a township figure, not a La Grange-only one, and the $10,000 Homeowner Exemption comes off it.
- Water is $11.79 and sewer $2.12 per 100 cubic feet from the Village fee schedule dated August 2025; the Village's minimum charges ($78.50 water and $14.11 sewer per bi-monthly bill) equal about 6.66 CCF of use per bill, so the page prices all use per CCF with no separate base charge. Newspaper reports say trustees raised water rates about 6.85 percent in April 2026, but no updated official schedule could be found, so the August 2025 schedule is the latest published rate. HOLD: the post-April-2026 water (and possibly sewer) rate is not in any loadable official source (Fee-Schedules page, Diligent portal and Chapter 52 text unreadable; paid fetch cap reached), so water/sewer figures are stale and the city must stay unpublished.
- Garbage uses the last published Flood Brothers cart rates, in effect to July 31, 2025; the Village approved a new five-year contract in July 2025 with a reported 3 percent increase, but no newer rate sheet is published. HOLD: the 2025-26 Flood Brothers cart rates are not published in any loadable source.
- Electricity and gas follow the Westchester method: ComEd delivery plus the October 2026 price to compare plus La Grange's 0.628 cents municipal tax addition and 0.330 cents state addition; Nicor Rate 1 plus October 2026 supply with La Grange's 5.15% charge.
- Typical EAV = board_tot 33001 x 3.0300 (modelling).

How La Grange compares
A typical La Grange house against the 132 Illinois cities we cover, using the same default numbers as the total above.
| Per year | La Grange | Median | Where it falls |
|---|---|---|---|
| Property tax rate | 9.08% | 8.23% | higher than 93 of the other 131 Illinois cities we cover |
| Water | $1,273 | $872 | higher than 111 of the other 131 Illinois cities we cover |
| Sewer and utility-bill fees | $229 | $535 | lower than 98 of the other 123 Illinois cities we cover |
| Trash | $216 | $283 | lower than 105 of the other 127 Illinois cities we cover |
| Electricity and gas | $2,270 | $2,163 | higher than 99 of the other 131 Illinois cities we cover |
| Total | $12,160 | $11,701 | higher than 75 of the other 131 Illinois cities we cover |
Cities bill differently (some put trash on the tax bill, some cover more services), so a higher number isn't necessarily worse. The property tax rate is compared instead of dollars because house values differ.
