How these numbers are made
- Property tax uses DuPage County 2025 final rates for tax code 9030 (Downers Grove Township, Burr Ridge with Grade School District 62, High School District 86 and Tri-State Fire District; total 4.7029 per $100 of equalized assessed value). Other codes and the Cook County part of the village differ.
- The starting value is one third of the Data USA median market value ($700,400 / 3), because Illinois taxes equalized assessed value (about one third of market value). The $8,000 general homestead exemption comes off that value.
- Water: Village residential rates within village limits effective May 1, 2026 to April 30, 2027: $13.65, $20.46 and $25.40 per 1,000 gallons by tier and a $12.15 monthly fixed charge. The Village does not publish a typical use, so the page starts at its default use.
- Sewer: the DuPage part of the village is billed separately by Flagg Creek ($0.98 sewer service plus $2.50 user fee per 1,000 gallons, and a $33.66 bi-monthly availability fee halved). The page's sewer figure is Flagg Creek's; DuPage Public Works billing for part of the village and Cook County accounts' $28.33 Village sewer charge are not modelled, and Flagg Creek's meter reading charge is not included.
- Electricity is ComEd single-family without electric space heat, using the same January 2026 rates, 609 kWh sample bill and annual supply average as Hinsdale's page with Hinsdale's municipal tax replaced by Burr Ridge's electricity tax, taken at the top of the Village's stated range of 0.00307 to 0.00536 per kWh. The Burr Ridge range comes from the Village's FY2026 budget document; the Village code section (60-11) could not be read to confirm it, and ComEd's June 2026 supply-price change is not reflected. Nicor Rate 1 gas is $21.30 a month plus 24.44 cents distribution and 33 cents gas cost per therm (October 2026), with the Village's 5.15% gas tax (Nicor Rider 8 table) applied to the customer charge and the per-therm charges.
- Garbage uses the Village's Groot general rate effective August 1, 2026. Homeowners insurance is not included (no official premium figure for Burr Ridge).
- Property tax payment dates are left out: DuPage has published only the 2025-tax installments (June 1 and September 1, 2026), which have passed, not the 2026-tax dates.
- Nothing here is legal, tax or insurance advice.
How Burr Ridge compares
A typical Burr Ridge house against the 132 Illinois cities we cover, using the same default numbers as the total above.
| Per year | Burr Ridge | Median | Where it falls |
|---|---|---|---|
| Property tax rate | 4.70% | 8.23% | lower than 130 of the other 131 Illinois cities we cover |
| Water | $1,249 | $872 | higher than 109 of the other 131 Illinois cities we cover |
| Sewer and utility-bill fees | $483 | $535 | lower than 69 of the other 123 Illinois cities we cover |
| Trash | $269 | $283 | lower than 73 of the other 127 Illinois cities we cover |
| Electricity and gas | $1,845 | $2,163 | lower than 114 of the other 131 Illinois cities we cover |
| Total | $14,449 | $11,701 | higher than 107 of the other 131 Illinois cities we cover |
Cities bill differently (some put trash on the tax bill, some cover more services), so a higher number isn't necessarily worse. The property tax rate is compared instead of dollars because house values differ.
