How these numbers are made
- Property tax uses Cook County's 2025 final rates for tax code 18027 (Hanover Township, Village of Hanover Park, School District U-46, Elgin Community College 509, Hanover Park Park District, Poplar Creek Public Library District, MWRD; total 9.0002 per $100 of equalized assessed value). Hanover Park has other Cook codes with Schaumburg-area schools, Bartlett Fire Protection District, special service areas or TIFs, and a DuPage County part; code 18027 was used because the same 9.0002 rate is shared by four Hanover Park codes (18027, 18115, 18142, 18143's base).
- The starting value is the Assessor's $312,000 Hanover Township median single-family estimate x 10% x the 3.0300 state factor = $94,536, minus the $10,000 homeowner exemption.
- Water is $11.15 per 1,000 gallons plus $2.47 per 1,000 gallons for Cook County sewer (combined as $13.62) plus the $25.17 monthly Infrastructure Service Charge for 3/4-inch meters; MWRD sewer tax is in the tax rates. DuPage homes pay $6.64 instead. No separate village stormwater fee was found.
- Garbage is the $25.18 monthly single-family rate for July 2026 to June 2027; yard waste carts ($36.07 a month) and extra carts are extra. Electricity is ComEd's delivery charges plus the October 2026 price to compare, the state tax addition, and the Hanover Park franchise cost addition of 2.926%. Gas is Nicor Rate 1 plus the October 2026 supply cost and Hanover Park's 3.00 cents per therm gas use tax; Hanover Park is not listed with a municipal gross receipts tax.
- Riders are not included. Typical use is EIA's Illinois average. Not included: homeowners insurance.

How Hanover Park compares
A typical Hanover Park house against the 132 Illinois cities we cover, using the same default numbers as the total above.
| Per year | Hanover Park | Median | Where it falls |
|---|---|---|---|
| Property tax rate | 9.00% | 8.23% | higher than 88 of the other 131 Illinois cities we cover |
| Water | $1,402 | $872 | higher than 120 of the other 131 Illinois cities we cover |
| Trash | $302 | $283 | higher than 75 of the other 127 Illinois cities we cover |
| Electricity and gas | $2,254 | $2,163 | higher than 86 of the other 131 Illinois cities we cover |
| Total | $11,567 | $11,701 | lower than 69 of the other 131 Illinois cities we cover |
Cities bill differently (some put trash on the tax bill, some cover more services), so a higher number isn't necessarily worse. The property tax rate is compared instead of dollars because house values differ.
