How these numbers are made
- Property tax uses DuPage County 2025 final rates for tax code 2018 (Bloomingdale Township, Village, Library, Park and Fire Protection Districts, Grade School District 13, High School District 108; total 7.1931 per $100 of equalized assessed value). Code 2018 is the one the county booklet labels BLOOMINGDALE; the Village spans several other tax codes, and the code with the most homes is not published.
- The starting value is one third of the Data USA median property value ($376,500 / 3), because Illinois taxes equalized assessed value (about one third of market value). The $8,000 general homestead exemption comes off that value.
- Water and sewer rates are the 6/1/26 rates, billed bimonthly and halved to monthly: the $45.56 water and $22.66 sewer minimum bills cover the first 5,000 gallons bimonthly (2,500 a month). Sewer per-1,000-gallon charges stop above 24,000 gallons bimonthly (12,000 a month).
- Trash is the SBC Waste Solutions single-family refuse and recycling rate of $21.00 a month effective 03/01/2026, billed quarterly; the 2027 rate is $21.53.
- Electricity and gas follow the same ComEd and Nicor method as nearby DuPage/Cook towns: ComEd single family without electric space heat (delivery charges, the October 2026 price to compare, and the state distribution tax) plus the ComEd franchise cost surcharge for Bloomingdale (1.831%, June 2026 to May 2027); Nicor Rate 1 plus the October 2026 gas cost. Typical use is the EIA residential average. Homeowners insurance is not included (no official premium survey found).

How Bloomingdale compares
A typical Bloomingdale house against the 132 Illinois cities we cover, using the same default numbers as the total above.
| Per year | Bloomingdale | Median | Where it falls |
|---|---|---|---|
| Property tax rate | 7.19% | 8.23% | lower than 102 of the other 131 Illinois cities we cover |
| Water | $736 | $872 | lower than 92 of the other 131 Illinois cities we cover |
| Sewer and utility-bill fees | $366 | $535 | lower than 82 of the other 123 Illinois cities we cover |
| Trash | $252 | $283 | lower than 83 of the other 127 Illinois cities we cover |
| Electricity and gas | $2,226 | $2,163 | higher than 75 of the other 131 Illinois cities we cover |
| Total | $12,032 | $11,701 | higher than 73 of the other 131 Illinois cities we cover |
Cities bill differently (some put trash on the tax bill, some cover more services), so a higher number isn't necessarily worse. The property tax rate is compared instead of dollars because house values differ.
