How these numbers are made
- Property tax uses DuPage County 2025 final rates for tax code 2041 (Bloomingdale Township, Village of Glendale Heights, Glenside Fire and Library Districts, Grade School District 16, High School District 87; total 8.6541 per $100 of equalized assessed value), the Glendale Heights code in the county booklet. Parcels in special service areas pay an extra rate and are not included.
- The starting value is one third of the Census median market value ($261,700 / 3), because Illinois taxes equalized assessed value (about one third of market value). The $8,000 general homestead exemption comes off that value.
- Water is $5.89 + $4.33 and sewer $7.60 per thousand gallons (rates effective May 1, 2026), converted to CCF; the $14.00 debt service and $19.00 capital infrastructure charges are added as a $33 monthly fixed charge. Typical use is the Village's own 6 thousand-gallon example bill.
- Trash is the Republic Services single-family individually billed rate of $99.45 per quarter ($33.15 a month) for May 2026 to April 2027.
- Electricity is ComEd single-family without electric space heat (same rates as the neighboring ComEd towns): per kWh the delivery, transmission, rider and Price to Compare supply charges; the Village aggregation supply price equals the ComEd rate. The Village electric utility tax (average 4%) is applied to energy bills. Gas is Nicor Rate 1: $21.30 a month plus 24.44 cents distribution and the October 2026 gas cost of 33 cents per therm, applied to the whole year.
- The Village Natural Gas Utility Tax is 5% (and $0.05 per therm use tax for gas bought from other suppliers); the calculator applies the 4% electric rate to gas as well, a one-point difference. ComEd and Nicor riders not itemized are not included. Other tax codes in the village exist; Water Commission tax is 0.

Cities bill differently (some put trash on the tax bill, some cover more services), so a higher number isn't necessarily worse. The property tax rate is compared instead of dollars because house values differ.
