How these numbers are made
- Property tax uses DuPage County 2025 final rates for tax code 3015 (Addison Township, Village, Park District, Fire Protection District #2, Library District, Grade School District 2, High School District 100; total 8.4417 per $100 of equalized assessed value). Bensenville also lies partly in Cook County and has other DuPage codes; the code with the most homes is not published.
- The starting value is one third of the Data USA median property value ($272,000 / 3), because Illinois taxes equalized assessed value (about one third of market value). The $8,000 general homestead exemption comes off that value.
- Water and sewer use the Village's ordinance rates for fiscal year 2026 (Ordinance 38-2026 rate schedule, which also lists the January 1, 2027 increase to $13.05 water and $11.07 sewer); the sewer rate is the first-10,000-gallon rate ($10.11), so use above 10,000 gallons a month is slightly understated. The monthly fixed charge ($11.92, 5/8 or 3/4 inch meter) is all in the water line; the sewer has no separate fixed charge.
- Trash is the Republic Services single-family rate of $28.76 a month in effect from January 1, 2026 (Resolution R-124-2025); it rises to $29.91 on January 1, 2027 (Ordinance 35-2026). The Village's Utility Billing page lists the refuse rates with the water and sewer rates but does not say who bills it.
- Electricity and gas follow the same ComEd and Nicor method as nearby DuPage/Cook towns: ComEd single family without electric space heat (delivery charges, the October 2026 price to compare, and the state distribution tax) plus the ComEd franchise cost surcharge for Bensenville (1.605%, June 2026 to May 2027); Nicor Rate 1 plus the October 2026 gas cost. Typical use is the EIA residential average. Homeowners insurance is not included (no official premium survey found).

Cities bill differently (some put trash on the tax bill, some cover more services), so a higher number isn't necessarily worse. The property tax rate is compared instead of dollars because house values differ.
