How these numbers are made
- Property tax uses the Village of Oregon's 2025 net mill rate of 15.137559 per $1,000: Village 4.897244, Dane County 2.399583, MATC 0.575054 and Oregon schools 8.911927 less the 1.646249 school credit, on Dane County's table (average assessment ratio 1.0424).
- The starting value is the owner-occupied median home value from the Village's 2024 housing affordability report, a market figure; assessed values may differ. The 2025 rates are applied because 2026 rates are not yet set.
- Water adds the $10.00 base and $9.25 public fire protection charge for a 5/8 or 3/4 inch meter, with three volume tiers per 1,000 gallons (10,000 and 40,000 gallons a month). Water rates follow the PSC tariff effective April 30, 2026 (docket 4440-WR-104, Amendment 24). A second water increase may follow; see the Village rates page.
- Sewer is $12.55 plus $9.54 per 1,000 gallons. Trash and recycling is the $10.16 refuse plus $3.70 recycling base monthly fee for 2026 ($13.86), on the municipal services bill, so it is not counted in property tax. Street light charge is $2.30 a month per residential lot.
- Electric and gas use Alliant's Wisconsin Power and Light residential rates effective 1/1/2026; typical electric use is the 2024 EIA average per Wisconsin Power & Light customer; typical gas use is Alliant's 751 therms a year. Gas supply varies monthly. The 2025 tax bill credits were Lottery $250.83 (the Village page says the home must have been the owner's primary residence on January 1, 2025) and First Dollar $83.61; they are shown separately and not subtracted from the tax total.

How Oregon compares
A typical Oregon house against the 47 Wisconsin cities we cover, using the same default numbers as the total above.
| Per year | Oregon | Median | Where it falls |
|---|---|---|---|
| Property tax rate | 1.51% | 1.54% | lower than 23 of the other 45 Wisconsin cities we cover |
| Water | $604 | $461 | higher than 31 of the other 46 Wisconsin cities we cover |
| Sewer and utility-bill fees | $949 | $687 | higher than 38 of the other 46 Wisconsin cities we cover |
| Trash | $166 | $199 | lower than 20 of the other 30 Wisconsin cities we cover |
| Electricity and gas | $2,470 | $1,905 | higher than 38 of the other 46 Wisconsin cities we cover |
| Total | $10,685 | $7,415 | higher than 44 of the other 46 Wisconsin cities we cover |
Cities bill differently (some put trash on the tax bill, some cover more services), so a higher number isn't necessarily worse. The property tax rate is compared instead of dollars because house values differ.
