How these numbers are made
- Property tax uses the Department of Revenue's 2025 full-value gross rate for the City of Beloit, 1.641%, on the Census median home value of $156,500. It is an average across school districts that serve parts of the city, and it does not include the state lottery credit.
- Water: $7.00 meter charge plus $4.50 public fire protection a month for a 5/8-inch meter, and $1.52 per CCF. Sewer: $9.19 a month plus $4.30 per CCF. Stormwater is $4.75 a month for a single family unit.
- Trash is $18 a month on the utility bill. Electric is the Rg-1 flat rate of $0.17011 per kWh plus $0.5260 a day. Gas is the $0.4907 per therm currently effective rate plus $0.4603 a day; the monthly market adjustment moves this rate.
- Typical use is the Wisconsin residential electric average from EIA and Alliant's 751 therms a year; water use of 9 CCF a month is a modelling assumption because the city publishes no average.
- Nothing here is legal, tax or insurance advice.
How Beloit compares
A typical Beloit house against the 47 Wisconsin cities we cover, using the same default numbers as the total above.
| Per year | Beloit | Median | Where it falls |
|---|---|---|---|
| Property tax rate | 1.64% | 1.54% | higher than 26 of the other 45 Wisconsin cities we cover |
| Water | $302 | $461 | lower than 43 of the other 46 Wisconsin cities we cover |
| Sewer and utility-bill fees | $632 | $687 | lower than 32 of the other 46 Wisconsin cities we cover |
| Trash | $216 | $199 | higher than 21 of the other 30 Wisconsin cities we cover |
| Electricity and gas | $2,045 | $1,905 | higher than 28 of the other 46 Wisconsin cities we cover |
| Total | $5,763 | $7,415 | lower than 42 of the other 46 Wisconsin cities we cover |
Cities bill differently (some put trash on the tax bill, some cover more services), so a higher number isn't necessarily worse. The property tax rate is compared instead of dollars because house values differ.
