How these numbers are made
- Property tax: State Auditor 2025 levies (latest posted) for the City of Mexico, Mexico 59 School District, Audrain County and its health, developmental disabilities and library districts, plus the Audrain Ambulance District and the state 3 cents. The Audrain Ambulance District levy is included; its own site says it covers the Mexico Public School district. Fire levies are not included.
- Value: Census median value ($139,800) times Missouri's 19 percent residential ratio; Missouri has no homestead exemption in this model.
- Water: Missouri American Water Rate A outside St. Louis County ($11.00 monthly, $11.2023 per 1,000 gallons) plus the Rate W WSIRA surcharge of $0.8042 per 1,000 gallons effective Aug. 15, 2026. Sewer: city rate effective with the 2027 fiscal year, $10.72 monthly plus $1.58 user and $6.79 capital charge per 1,000 gallons, billed on winter-average water use.
- Electric: Ameren Missouri Rate 1(M) weighted 4/12 summer and 8/12 winter; the fixed charge is $9.00 customer charge plus $0.19 low-income pilot charge; other riders and any city utility tax are not modelled. Gas: Ameren Missouri residential delivery charge plus the Total PGA of 64.94¢ per Ccf filed October 2025; riders and taxes are not modelled.
- Insurance: the only published figure found is the Missouri statewide 2023 average premium; no Mexico or newer figure is published.

| Water | $1,102 | $680 | higher than 38 of the other 42 Missouri cities we cover |
| Sewer and utility-bill fees | $805 | $805 | in the middle of 42 other Missouri cities we cover |
| Trash | $195 | $261 | lower than 25 of the other 31 Missouri cities we cover |
| Electricity and gas | $2,206 | $2,357 | lower than 30 of the other 42 Missouri cities we cover |

| Total | $8,012 | $8,070 | lower than 24 of the other 42 Missouri cities we cover |
Cities bill differently (some put trash on the tax bill, some cover more services), so a higher number isn't necessarily worse. The property tax rate is compared instead of dollars because house values differ.
