How these numbers are made
- Property tax: Cass County 2026 levy schedule, Belton city and Belton School District 124 levies plus the county-wide levies and the Mt. Pleasant Special Road levy, rates per $100 of assessed value, applied to 19% of the Census median market value (levy times 0.19). The city's own 2025 rate page lists the same Mt. Pleasant levy in its total; a few Belton addresses may be in other districts.
- Water: April 1, 2026 rates: $16.14 minimum plus $5.80 debt service for the first 1,500 gallons, then $1.2092 per 100 gallons, stored per 1,000 gallons. No sourced typical household use was found; the page default is used.
- Sewer: the volume method ($14.80 minimum for 1,500 gallons, then $1.7026 per 100 gallons); a winter-average method is also offered. Trash: $22.01 a month for one 96-gallon cart.
- Electric: Evergy Missouri West Standard Tier rate effective July 1, 2026 with summer and winter blocks weighted 4 and 8 months, plus the Rider FAC of $0.00876 per kWh and the DSIM rider of $0.00080 per kWh (approved effective Aug 1, 2026). A small part of western Belton is served by Evergy Missouri Metro. Other Evergy riders could not be read because the Evergy tariff site blocks automated access.
- Gas: Spire West $22 customer charge; delivery charge averaged winter/summer plus the $0.67976 PGA, converted from ccf to therms.
- Utility tax: the State Auditor's 2022 report says Belton charges other commercial utilities the same 7 percent franchise tax as its water and sewer funds; applied as 7% on the electric and gas totals. It was reported for the year ended March 2021, so the current ordinance was not read (Municode blocks automated access).

Cities bill differently (some put trash on the tax bill, some cover more services), so a higher number isn't necessarily worse. The property tax rate is compared instead of dollars because house values differ.
