How these numbers are made
- Property tax: State Auditor 2025 rates for the City of Maryville, Nodaway County and the Maryville R-II School District, plus the state 3 cents. County road and bridge levies are set by township and are not modelled. The Census median value is a market value, multiplied by Missouri's 19 percent residential assessment ratio.
- Water and sewer: City ordinance 705.300 (water, effective January 1, 2026) and the City sewer rate page. The water minimum charge includes the first 100 cubic feet, so the base is the minimum less one 100 cubic feet at $6.27. The City states the average residential use is 400 cubic feet a month.
- Water rates are scheduled to rise about 50% in FY2027 per the City; the page uses the rates in force since January 1, 2026.
- Electric: Evergy Missouri West residential standard tier tariff, summer and winter blended 4/12 and 8/12, plus the two riders sourced here (FARSec $0.00876 and DSIM $0.00080 per kWh); other riders such as the fuel adjustment were not confirmed and are not modelled. Gas: Empire District Gas (Liberty) Residential Service sheet 9 ($16.50 customer charge, $0.21748 per Ccf; the 2022 sheet is the newest found) plus the NW System Purchased Gas Adjustment of $0.0798642 per Ccf (regular PGA $0.4010446 less an actual-cost-adjustment credit of $0.3211804, effective December 1, 2025, the sheet in force now); the PGA changes yearly and the credit is temporary. Gas converted from per Ccf to per therm with 1.037; typical use is Liberty's stated 58 Ccf a month. City utility taxes on electric and gas bills and trash costs from private haulers are not modelled: the Maryville code rate could not be read from the City's site.
- Home insurance is the Missouri 2023 statewide average premium.
- Gas utility: Empire District Gas Company d/b/a Liberty tariff lists Maryville under 'NW System' (PSC EFIS doc 360336). Property tax typical value = Census median value x 19% assessment ratio.

Cities bill differently (some put trash on the tax bill, some cover more services), so a higher number isn't necessarily worse. The property tax rate is compared instead of dollars because house values differ.
