How these numbers are made
  • Property tax uses the 2026 adopted millage for City of Palmetto tax district 0019 (Manatee County 5.5373 + county voter-approved 0.4833 + School Board 6.2750 + City 5.8445 + Southwest Florida Water Management District 0.1831 + Mosquito Control 0.1256 + West Coast Inland Navigation District 0.0394 + North River Fire District 0.7500 = 19.2382 mills) on taxable value after the $25,000 + up to $26,411 homestead exemptions. The exemption's second part is indexed and its 2026 amount comes from Florida's statewide figure.
  • Water, sewer and garbage use the City's rates as of October 1, 2026 (water $11.02 base plus $8.01 per 1,000 gallons to 3,000, then $8.86, $9.68, $13.74 and $15.08 in higher steps; sewer $21.13 base plus $4.28 / $4.75). The calculator folds the two sewer tiers into $19.72 + $4.75 per 1,000 gallons (21.13 - 3 x (4.75 - 4.28)), which equals the City's charge in any month over 3,000 gallons and is up to $1.41 low below that.
  • Garbage is the City's flat residential service fee of $23.68 a month. Manatee County residents outside city limits on City sewer pay a surcharge and are not modelled. The City's Water Protection Program charge (listed at $3.00 for meters up to 1 inch, assigned by meter size; the City's page does not state its billing period) is not included.
  • The starting home value is the Census median value of owner-occupied units (all types, a market value); a long-held homestead's assessed value is often lower because of the Save Our Homes cap. Parts of the city may pay community development district assessments; none is included. The City lists no stormwater utility fee.
  • Electricity uses FPL's October 2026 residential rate RS-1 ($10.52 a month plus 12.258 cents per kWh up to 1,000 kWh and 14.258 cents above, all per-kWh clauses included); the franchise charge and municipal utility tax that FPL adds to bills are not included (FPL says they vary by area and are set by local governments; no Palmetto rate was found), so the actual bill is typically higher by these fees. Gas is left out because about 7% of owner-occupied homes heat with utility gas. Insurance starts at the Florida OIR Manatee County average premium including wind; flood insurance is separate.
  • The default water use is an assumption: the City publishes no typical household usage.
  • Nothing here is legal, tax or insurance advice.
