How these numbers are made
  • Jeffersontown is a city inside Louisville Metro. Its homes pay the state rate (10.3 cents per $100), Louisville Metro's general rate (11.64 cents), the City of Jeffersontown's own rate (10.82 cents), the Jeffersontown / McMahan fire district rate (20 cents) and the JCPS rate (70.3 cents), all 2026 rates from the Sheriff's table and the city. They do not pay the Urban Services District rate. We assume the fire district tax applies to homes in the city; the Sheriff's table names the district but not its boundary. The city bills its own tax separately (first week of October); the county bill (state, Metro, fire, school) comes November 1.
  • Property tax starts at the Census median value of owner-occupied homes in Jeffersontown; your PVA assessment may differ. Kentucky's $49,100 homestead exemption is only for owners 65 and older or totally disabled, so it is a tip, not taken off the typical bill. Discounts (2% city by October 31, 2% county by December 1) are not taken off the typical bill.
  • Water: Louisville Water Company's 2026 residential rates for a 5/8-inch meter, $17.82 a month plus $1.70 per 1,000 gallons for the first 2,000, $4.70 for the next 8,000 and $4.87 above 10,000. Starting use is Louisville Water's average customer, 4,000 gallons a month (about 5.3 CCF).
  • Sewer: MSD's rates from September 1, 2026, $24.48 service charge plus the $20.01 residential infrastructure surcharge a month and $6.56 per 1,000 gallons. MSD's $15.39 drainage service charge is not added: MSD's schedule defines its drainage service area as all of Jefferson County except Anchorage, Jeffersontown, St. Matthews and Shively (unless included by agreement with MSD).
  • Trash: Rumpke collects trash, recycling and yard waste and the city's tax pamphlet lists garbage collection among services its property tax pays for, so trash is shown as $0. Electricity and gas: LG&E Rate RS and RGS from August 14, 2026 with the August 2026 adjustments, using EIA average use. Insurance is the 2022 Kentucky average HO-3 premium (NAIC via Triple-I), dated and possibly below current premiums.
