How these numbers are made
  • Property tax: Hardin County PVA 2025 real estate schedule for the Elizabethtown Independent School district: state 10.6, school 85.7, county 10.8, extension 1.8, health 2.2 and soil 0.2 cents (county total 15.0), plus the Elizabethtown city rate of 10.7 cents per $100. The PVA row total of 111.3 cents covers state, school and county only; with the city rate the total is 122.0 cents per $100. The 2026 rates were not found.
  • Starting value is the Census median value of owner-occupied homes in Elizabethtown, $245,900; your PVA assessment may differ. The $49,100 homestead exemption is for owners 65+ or totally disabled, so it is a tip, not taken off the typical bill.
  • Water: Hardin County Water District No. 2 tariff from July 1, 2026, priced per gallon and converted to 1,000 gallons. Sewer: the city's rate-study rates for FY 2027 (base fee plus per 1,000 gallons over 2,000); the city council approved a multi-year schedule in 2025, but the ordinance itself was not found. HCWD2 bills city sewer customers. The water tariff text read here does not say whether a July 2026 Louisville Water purchased-water pass-through (about $0.02-$0.03 per 1,000 gallons) is already in the $6.02; it was not added.
  • Electricity: Kentucky Utilities Rate RS base charge and energy charge only; fuel (FAC) and environmental (ECR) rider amounts were not added. Starting use is EIA 2024 for Kentucky Utilities in Kentucky (about 1,097 kWh a month). The 3% schools utility tax is applied to electricity. Part of Elizabethtown may be served by Nolin RECC rather than KU; this was not checked. The 3% schools utility tax comes from the Kentucky Department of Education levy sheet and was not confirmed elsewhere.
  • Not found: a published trash price or whether the city has a hauler contract, the city gas rates (Elizabethtown Utilities), and a typical water use, so gas and trash are left out of the total.
  • Modelling: sewer adoption of the FY 2027 schedule not confirmed (no retail ordinance found); water effective date not verified; assessment ratio/PVA not quoted.
  • Nothing here is legal, tax or insurance advice.

Cities bill differently (some put trash on the tax bill, some cover more services), so a higher number isn't necessarily worse. The property tax rate is compared instead of dollars because house values differ.
