How these numbers are made
  • Fate bills water, sewer, trash and recycling together on one monthly city utility bill, so we calculate yours from the city's published rates and what you tell us.
  • Garbage: Waste Connections, $20.56 a month for one 96-gallon trash cart and one 96-gallon recycle cart (the city's FY2027 budget says trash rates rise 3.84% and will be presented later this year, so this may change). Water: Inside City residential, $21.96 a month for a 5/8-inch meter, then $5.05, $6.82, $9.20 and $12.89 per 1,000 gallons at 5,000, 10,000 and 100,000 gallons. Sewer: $43.47 a month plus $5.42 per 1,000 gallons; the city uses your winter average, and we use this month's water as a stand-in. Fate's page shows no stormwater fee on the utility bill, so none is included. No published typical-use figure for a house was usable, so the page default is used.
  • Electricity: Texas has retail electric choice in most areas, so the price depends on the plan you pick. We use EIA's Texas average residential price, 16.06 cents per kWh (year to date through July 2026), with no separate monthly charge, and EIA's 2024 Texas average of 1,096 kWh a month. Gas: Atmos Mid-Tex Rate R from Oct 1, 2026, $24.40 a month plus $1.03839 per Ccf and Rider GCR gas cost of $0.85017 per Ccf from Atmos's example bill, converted to therms; typical use 40.7 Ccf (42.2 therms). Franchise fee and tax riders are not included. Insurance: the 2022 Texas average premium.
  • Property tax: the latest rates published on Fate's page (FY2025-26, tax year 2025), City of Fate $0.290869, Rockwall County $0.251 and Rockwall ISD $1.0669 per $100, with the $140,000 school homestead exemption. We did not find a published 2026 city, county or school rate. The starting value, $384,300, is the Census ACS median value of owner-occupied homes (market value), not an appraisal-district figure; assessed values under the 10% homestead cap are likely lower. Over-65, disabled and veteran exemptions are tips, not applied.
  • School district: Fate is split between Rockwall ISD (south and west) and Royse City ISD (north and east). By 2020 Census housing units inside the city limits the split is nearly even (about 2,810 vs 2,779), so we used Rockwall ISD; Royse City ISD homeowners pay $1.2552 per $100, about $1,880 a year more on a $384,300 home after the $140,000 exemption. Some Fate neighborhoods also have PID or MUD assessments that are not on the page's total (the city's tax estimator says it does not include PID assessments).
