Fate property tax: where it goes
A Fate house pays 1.609% of its taxable value in property tax. For a house at $384,300 of market value with the homestead exemption, that's about $4,689 a year.
Tax is levied on taxable value (appraised value less exemptions), at a rate per $100 of valuation.
2026 rates are still being adopted, so these are the latest confirmed (tax year 2025). Fate is split between two school districts: homes in Royse City ISD ($1.2552 per $100) pay about $1,880 a year more than shown here. Some Fate neighborhoods also have PID or MUD assessments that are not included, so many newer homes pay a higher total.

Ways to pay less
- Seniors 65+ or disabled: $50,000 off city taxable value. A person age 65 or older in the City of Fate may apply for an exemption from city taxation of $50,000 of the assessed value of the resident’s homestead. How: Apply through the Rockwall Central Appraisal District, 972-771-2034.
- Seniors 65+ or disabled: extra school exemption. School districts must give owners 65 or older or disabled an additional $60,000 homestead exemption on top of the $140,000 general one. How: File the residence homestead exemption application (Form 50-114) with the appraisal district.
- Disabled veterans rated 100%. A disabled veteran awarded 100 percent disability compensation for a service-connected disability, and rated 100 percent disabled or individually unemployable, gets a total property tax exemption on the homestead. How: The application is Form 50-114. Exemption applications are filed with the appraisal district in your county.
- Homestead cap: appraised value rises at most 10% a year. Once you have qualified your home for homestead exemptions in the prior and current year, its appraised value may not increase more than 10 percent per year (plus new improvements). How: Review your exemption status online at your appraisal district.
