Worth checking
Homeowners: claim the Arkansas homestead property tax credit
The state homestead property tax credit reduces the real property taxes assessed on the homestead of each property owner. Homeowners must apply for the credit with the county assessor's office.
How: Apply with the county Assessor's office.
Homeowners 65+ or disabled: freeze your assessed valueValue frozen
If you qualify for the homestead credit and are 65 or older or disabled, the taxable assessed value of your home can be frozen at its value at the next assessment date after you turn 65 or become disabled. Your tax can still change if millage rates change.
How: Apply for the freeze with the county assessor's office.

How these numbers are made
- Property tax: Arkansas assesses a home at 20% of market value and applies the total millage. For the 2025 taxes (payable 2026), a Camden home in the Camden/Fairview School District carries 50 mills: school 34, City of Camden 8 and Ouachita County 8. A small part of Camden may be in other districts; we price the Camden/Fairview District. We subtract the $600 homestead credit. Voluntary millages are not included.
- Water and sewer: Camden Water Utilities rates effective August 1, 2026, inside city: water $20.00 base charge per meter (first 1,000 gallons included) plus $0.40 Save Water Act fee, then $3.95 per thousand gallons; sewer $27.00 base (first 1,000 gallons included) plus $5.25 per thousand gallons. The utility says May to October sewer is billed on an average of the previous winter, which the calculator does not model. The utility has not published a typical use, so the page starts at its default.
- Electricity: Camden Water Utilities does not supply power; the City of Camden lists Ouachita Electric Co-op for electric service. The federal retail service territory map shows both Ouachita Electric Co-op and Entergy Arkansas serving part of Camden, and we could not find which serves most homes, so this figure applies only to co-op members; Entergy customers pay different rates. We price the co-op: $25 plus $0.118755 per kWh (the co-op also lists a $33 minimum monthly bill), with any cost adjustments and sales tax not included. Typical use is the EIA 2024 residential average for Ouachita Electric (95,374 MWh over 8,391 customers), which is a co-op average, not a Camden or Entergy figure. Electricity is the largest line in the total.
- Garbage: the city runs trash service but no residential price could be sourced from a public document, so garbage is not in the total. Gas: a natural gas provider is linked on the city site but its rates were not sourced, so gas is left out. Insurance is Arkansas's 2022 statewide average premium.
- Garbage: the city's new-resident page lists 'Sanitation' with a link to the Camden Sanitation Department; no residential price was found.

A typical Camden house against the 15 Arkansas cities we cover, using the same default numbers as the total above.
| Per year | Camden | Median | Where it falls |

| Property tax rate | 1.00% | 1.14% | lower than 12 of the other 14 Arkansas cities we cover |
| Water | $516 | $516 | in the middle of 14 other Arkansas cities we cover |
| Sewer and utility-bill fees | $685 | $723 | lower than 7 of the other 12 Arkansas cities we cover |
| Electricity and gas | $1,650 | $2,248 | lower than 13 of the other 14 Arkansas cities we cover |
| Home insurance | $1,740 | $1,740 | in the middle of 14 other Arkansas cities we cover |
| Total | $5,065 | $7,630 | lower than 14 of the other 14 Arkansas cities we cover |
Cities bill differently (some put trash on the tax bill, some cover more services), so a higher number isn't necessarily worse. The property tax rate is compared instead of dollars because house values differ.
