How these numbers are made
- Property tax: Arkansas assesses a home at 20% of market value and applies the total millage. For the 2025 taxes due Oct. 15, 2026, a home inside Conway in the Conway School District carries 50.6 mills: Conway School District 38.1, City of Conway 4.2 and Faulkner County 8.3. On market value that is 1.012%, about $2,551 on the $252,100 Census median before the homestead credit. Homes in the Greenbrier School District pay 53 mills. The state report also lists voluntary millages (1.0 mill for the City of Conway and 2.5 mills for the county), which are not included.
- Homestead credit: we subtract $600, the credit on the bills due in 2026 (Act 330 of 2025). The Faulkner County Assessor's page already shows the credit as up to $675, the higher amount lawmakers set for later years; that is not included.
- Water and sewer: Conway Corporation in-city residential rates, $8.09 customer charge plus the $1.00 watershed protection fee and $4.69 per 1,000 gallons for water; $7.93 plus $9.04 per 1,000 gallons for wastewater. The 1,000-gallon water minimum and the $26.01 wastewater minimum only matter at very low use, and summer sewer bills follow your winter average rather than actual use.
- Garbage: the City of Conway's $17.00 monthly residential fee for one 96-gallon cart, billed by Conway Corporation; sales tax on the fee is not included.
- Electricity: Conway Corporation's residential rate, $18.00 a month plus 7.08 cents per kWh all year. The monthly cost of power adjustment (a charge or a credit depending on Conway Corp's power cost against its 4.629-cent base) is not published as a current figure and is not included; EIA reports Conway Corporation's 2024 residential average at 8.29 cents per kWh including the fixed charge. Typical use is Conway Corporation's 2024 residential average, 985 kWh a month (EIA).
- Gas: Summit Utilities Arkansas's current gas supply rate and rider amounts are shown only on its interactive rates page, not in a public document, so we price gas at Arkansas's 2025 average residential price from EIA, $19.25 per thousand cubic feet ($1.856 per therm at 10.37 therms per Mcf), which EIA defines as the total price paid, including taxes, delivery and commodity charges, so there is no separate monthly charge or franchise tax on top. For comparison, Summit's tariff sets a $17.51 monthly customer charge plus $0.73831 per Ccf for the first 15 Ccf and $0.59566 above, before the gas supply rate and riders, and Summit adds Conway's 4.25% franchise tax; a Conway bill can differ from the state average. Typical use is Arkansas's 2024 average, 41.9 therms a month (EIA). Insurance is Arkansas's 2022 statewide average premium; sales tax on utility bills is not included.

Cities bill differently (some put trash on the tax bill, some cover more services), so a higher number isn't necessarily worse. The property tax rate is compared instead of dollars because house values differ.
