Ways to pay less
Nothing here applies to every house automatically. These are worth checking:
Apply for the homestead creditUp to $600 a year off the tax bill
Arkansas's homestead property tax credit reduces the real property taxes on the homestead of each property owner by $600 for assessment years beginning on or after January 1, 2025.
How: Apply with the county assessor's office.
Homeowners 65+ or disabled: freeze your assessed valueValue frozen
If you qualify for the homestead credit and are 65 or older or disabled, the taxable assessed value of your home can be frozen at its value at the next assessment date after you turn 65 or become disabled. Your tax can still change if millage rates change.
How: Apply for the freeze with the county assessor's office.
No landfill disposal fee for residents (except construction material)
Jonesboro residents do not have to pay for solid waste disposal at the landfill unless they have construction material.
How: Take items to Legacy Landfill (Craighead County Solid Waste Disposal Authority), 238 CR 476.
Free curbside tree limb pickup
The Sanitation Department will pick up tree limbs from your curb for no charge.
How: Call the Sanitation Department at 870-932-7520 to inquire about limb pickups.

How these numbers are made
- Property tax: Arkansas assesses a home at 20% of market value and applies the total millage. For the 2025 taxes due Oct. 15, 2026, a home inside Jonesboro in the Jonesboro School District carries 41.2 mills: school 33.1, city 2 and county 6.1. Homes in the Nettleton (51.48 mills), Valley View (50.6), Westside (43.52), Bay (49.8) or Brookland (46.63) districts pay more or less.
- Homestead credit: we subtract $600 per the 2025 law; the state report also lists voluntary millages that are not included.
- Water and sewer: CWL's bond statement gives in-city water at a minimum bill from $7.69 a month (by meter size) and $2.64 per 1,000 gallons, and wastewater at $4.71 per 1,000 gallons up to 14,000 gallons. The sewer $10.54 minimum (first 1,000 gallons) is from Jonesboro Unlimited's CWL rates page, which was last verified before the latest water increase and may be slightly out of date; that page also still lists $7.27 and $2.49 for water, while the 2026 bond statement lists $7.69 and $2.64, which we use. A sewer rate increase has been reported but its amounts and date could not be confirmed. Water's minimum bill also covers the first 1,000 gallons; we do not credit that. Typical water use is CWL's 2025 average annual use per customer, 123,539 gallons a year (about 10,295 gallons or 13.76 CCF a month; this average covers all CWL water customers).
- Garbage: no separate city fee; the only source is a 2018 city statement in a KAIT report, so verify with the Sanitation Department (870-932-7520). The page labels the $0 as unverified.
- Electricity: CWL does not publish a residential tariff online; we use its 2025 average residential price of 7.14 cents per kWh (which already includes the fixed monthly charge) and its typical 1,250 kWh a month. CWL rates rise about 5.3% on Jan. 1, 2027 and 5.5% on Jan. 1, 2028. Some outer areas are served by Craighead Electric Cooperative. Gas uses the Arkansas average residential price (EIA) since Summit's Jonesboro tariff rate was not used.
- Gas estimate omits Summit's monthly customer charge (not verified from sources).
