How these numbers are made
- Property tax uses the 2025 Hall County district report rates for tax district 5 (Grand Island 2 school district, city, county, ESU 10, Central Community College, Central Platte NRD and others), each per $100 of valuation divided by 100.
- Water uses the City ordinance rates effective October 1, 2026 for a meter under 1 inch, with the 2% Water City Dividend from the FY2025-26 fee schedule applied; sales tax on bills is not counted.
- Sewer uses the FY2025-26 fee schedule ($9.26 a month plus $4.62 per Ccf); stormwater is $1.00 a month for residences.
- Electricity uses the October 1, 2025 residential rate with the 5% Electric City Dividend; the additional-kWh price is a 7-month winter/5-month summer season average. The Power Cost Adjustment varies monthly and is not counted.
- Sewer is the FY2025-26 schedule; the City Council approved sewer increases for the following two fiscal years in June 2024 (FOX Nebraska), but the FY2026-27 schedule could not be read, so the current sewer bill may be higher.
- Natural gas is not included: no gas rates are counted in the typical total, so a home that heats with gas has a further bill that is not shown.
- Trash is not counted: the price is not published by the City; ask your hauler.
- Insurance is the 2022 Nebraska statewide average homeowners premium, not a Grand Island figure.
- Nothing here is legal, tax or insurance advice.

| Water | $226 | $681 | lower than 985 of the other 999 cities we cover nationwide |
| Sewer and utility-bill fees | $622 | $692 | lower than 522 of the other 882 cities we cover nationwide |

| Home insurance | $1,869 | $1,492 | higher than 620 of the other 766 cities we cover nationwide |
| Total | $7,581 | $10,827 | lower than 842 of the other 999 cities we cover nationwide |
Cities bill differently (some put trash on the tax bill, some cover more services), so a higher number isn't necessarily worse. The property tax rate is compared instead of dollars because house values differ.
