What the next council decides

Budget deficit and Measure CC

Where it standsHayward is closing a General Fund deficit with layoffs, deferred raises and cuts, and has asked voters to approve Measure CC, a business license tax update.

What's on the tableThe next council will set the 2027-28 budget and decide how to spend any Measure CC revenue.

Data centers

Where it standsAfter resident protests over the Stack data center on Eden Landing Road, the council voted 7-0 in September 2026 to start a temporary moratorium on new data centers.

What's on the tableThe council will vote on the moratorium in late October and may later consider stricter rules or a permanent ban.

Police drones and license-plate cameras

Where it standsIn August 2026 the council approved, 6-1, a five-year Axon contract for police drones, replacement license-plate cameras and a real-time information center.

The downtown Loop
