Ways to pay less

  • Pay the property tax in full by November 16. Paying all of the 2026 tax by Nov. 16, 2026 takes 3% off; paying two-thirds by then takes 2% off. Installments get no discount. How: Pay at proptax.multco.us, by mail (postmarked by Nov. 16) or at 501 S.E. Hawthorne Blvd.
  • Seniors 65+: 50% off the sewer charge. Residential utility customers over the age of 65 may qualify for a 50% reduction of the standard monthly sanitary sewer charge. The service address must be the applicant's principal residence, the utility service must be in the applicant's name, and no City sewer or other City assessments may be in arrears. The applicant's income may not exceed 50% of the Multnomah County Median Family Income for the household size, and the discount expires each June. How: Contact Utility Billing at 503-674-7232.
  • Seniors 62+ or disabled: property tax deferral. Disabled or senior homeowners can borrow from the State of Oregon to pay their county property taxes; a lien is placed on the home and deferred taxes accrue 6% interest a year. The 2026 household income limit is $70,000. In Multnomah County, seniors must be at least 62 by April 15 of the year they file. How: File an application with the county assessor by April 15, or late from April 16 to December 1 with a fee.
  • Disabled veterans: property tax exemption. Veterans certified 40% or more disabled, with an honorable discharge from active duty, who own and live in their Multnomah County home as their primary residence may be entitled to a property tax exemption. Veterans certified by an independent licensed physician must also meet an income requirement. How: Email the claim with proof of discharge and certification of disability to dart.special.programs@multco.us (preferred), or mail it to Multnomah County DART SPG, PO Box 2716, Portland, OR 97208-2716 if you are unable to email.
