Ways to pay less

  • Declare your home as your domicile to skip sales tax on utilities. Kentucky residents can file a Declaration of Domicile so that sewer, water and fuel (including natural gas and electricity) bought for their home are classified as exempt from Kentucky sales and use tax. The exemption starts with the first full billing cycle after the utility receives the declaration. How: Submit Kentucky form 51A380 to each utility provider (NPU has the form on its utility forms page).
  • Free brush and yard waste drop-off. Nicholasville residents can drop off branches, brush, grass clippings, leaves and logs 8 inches in diameter or less, un-bagged, at the city Brush Pile at the Wastewater Treatment Plant, 2296 Shun Pike, at no charge. How: Bring a valid ID as proof of residency; open Tuesday and Thursday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. to noon.
