Schedule R.S. residential electric service effective July 1, 2025: $9.50 electric base charge a month, an energy charge of $0.14590 per kWh and a power cost adjustment of $0.001736 per kWh. Salem's utility service tax on residential electricity is $0.40 plus $0.003 per kWh, up to $0.90. The bill also carries the state consumption tax ($0.00102), local consumption tax ($0.00038) and special regulatory tax ($0.000165) per kWh up to 2,500 kWh a month.

Gas: Roanoke Gas

Residential service (RS) effective October 1, 2026: $17.00 monthly charge, $1.335830 per therm for the first 54 therms and $1.151888 per therm above 54. Salem's utility service tax on residential gas is a $0.53 minimum plus $0.011 per 100 CCF, up to $0.90. Virginia's gas consumption tax is $0.0135 (state) and $0.004 (local) per CCF plus a special regulatory tax of up to $0.0026 per CCF.
