Ways to pay less
- Seniors 65+ or disabled: $200,000 city exemption and tax freeze. League City exempts $200,000 of the appraised value of the homestead of an owner 65 or older or disabled, and has adopted a tax freeze on these homesteads. How: Exemption applications are filed with the appraisal district in your county (Form 50-114).
- Seniors 65+ or disabled: extra school exemption. School districts must give owners 65 or older or disabled an additional $60,000 homestead exemption on top of the $140,000 general one. How: File the residence homestead exemption application (Form 50-114) with the appraisal district.
- Disabled veterans rated 100%. A disabled veteran awarded 100 percent disability compensation for a service-connected disability, and rated 100 percent disabled or individually unemployable, gets a total property tax exemption on the homestead. How: The application is Form 50-114. Exemption applications are filed with the appraisal district in your county.
- Split your city and county tax bill in two. On Galveston County Tax Office bills, which include League City and Galveston County taxes, you can pay half by November 30 and the second half by June 30 without penalty and interest. How: Pay the first half by November 30; the tax office sends a reminder before the second half is due.
