Ways to pay less
- Seniors 65+ or totally disabled: homestead exemption. Homeowners who are at least 65, or who are classified as totally disabled and meet the other requirements, can take $49,100 (the 2025-2026 amount) off the assessed value of their home. Disability-based exemptions must be renewed each year unless an exception applies. How: File a homestead application with the PVA of the county where the home is (for Georgetown, the Scott County PVA); proof of age can be a birth certificate, driver's license, passport or other approved document.
- Seniors 65+: 10% off water and sewer. GMWSS customers 65 or older get 10% off the water and sanitary sewer portions of the bill at their primary residence. It does not apply to the garbage fee, the 911 fee, late fees or taxes. How: Show proof of age and residence to GMWSS Customer Service.
- Pay the county tax bill early for 2% off. Kentucky law gives a 2% discount on property taxes paid in full by November 1; when the regular schedule is delayed, an alternative schedule allows 2% off bills paid in full within one full month of mailing. The Scott County Sheriff normally mails tax bills on November 1, and the bill says when the taxes are due. How: Check the dates on your Scott County Sheriff tax bill; questions: (502) 863-7855.
