Wood River property tax: where it goes

A typical Wood River house pays about $2,600 a year on the property tax bill, including flat charges on the same bill. Estimated from public rates, not anyone's actual bill.

A Wood River house pays 8.641% of its taxable value in property tax. For a house at $36,033 of value before exemptions with the homestead exemption, that's about $2,595 a year.

Tax is levied on Taxable assessed value: the equalized assessed value less the exemptions a taxpayer qualifies for. In Illinois, property is assessed at 1/3 its fair market value..
