Davie property tax: where it goes

A Davie house pays 1.946% of its taxable value in property tax, plus flat charges on the same bill. For a house at $393,530 of value before exemptions with the homestead exemption, that's about $7,182 a year.

Tax is levied on taxable value times the tax millage rates, plus special assessments (Davie's millage code 2412 totals 19.4550 mills).

Ways to pay less

  • Seniors 65+ with limited income: extra exemptions. Broward County raised the Low-Income Senior's Additional Homestead Exemption to $50,000 for the county portion of the tax bill, and Davie is on the Property Appraiser's list of cities that have adopted the Senior Citizen's Additional Homestead Exemption. Davie also adopted the Long-term Residency Senior Exemption for the town's portion of the bill, for seniors who have lived on the property at least 25 years and whose property had a just value under $250,000 for the initial year of application. For 2027 you must be 65 or older on January 1, 2027, have the homestead exemption, and have 2026 household adjusted gross income not exceeding $38,686. How: Submit the Adjusted Gross Household Income Sworn Statement to the Broward County Property Appraiser on or before March 1, 2027.
  • $5,000 exemptions for widowed, blind and disabled residents. Broward offers a $5,000 exemption for widowed persons, a $5,000 exemption for blind persons and a $5,000 exemption for totally and permanently disabled residents. How: Apply to the Broward County Property Appraiser with the documents it lists (death certificate, Division of Blind Services certificate or physician's letter).
  • Disabled veterans: $5,000 or full homestead exemption. $5,000 Veteran's Disability Exemption: the disability must be military service-related, incurred during a period of wartime service or by misfortune, and at least 10% before January 1; the veteran must be a permanent resident of the State of Florida, and the surviving spouse of an eligible disabled veteran may also claim it if he or she has not remarried. Full exemption: any honorably discharged veteran with a service-connected total and permanent disability is entitled to an exemption on real estate used and owned as a homestead. How: For the $5,000 exemption, a copy of your Certificate of Disability from the U.S. Government or the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (or its predecessor agency); for the full exemption, a certificate from the US Government or US Department of Veterans Affairs.
  • Totally disabled veterans: no Davie fire assessment. The Town of Davie does not impose its Fire Protection Assessment on residential property that is the homestead of a totally and permanently disabled veteran, or their surviving spouse, who receives a total property tax exemption under Section 196.081 or 196.091, Florida Statutes; this does not apply to those exempt under Section 196.081(6). The residential fire assessment is $296.00 per dwelling unit for the fiscal year beginning October 1, 2026. How: It applies to homesteads that receive the total property tax exemption under Section 196.081 or 196.091, Florida Statutes (not 196.081(6)).
