- Source
- The primary source is surface water from the Diascund Creek Reservoir, supplemented by the Chickahominy River.
- Lead
- Lead and copper testing was completed in 2025; none of the individual samples exceeded the action level, and lead has not been detected in treated water tested monthly at either treatment plant.
- PFAS
- In 2025 testing, PFOS ranged from 3.7 to 4.9 parts per trillion and PFOA from 2.1 to 3.3; the federal limit set in 2024 is 4.0 parts per trillion for each.

Sewer
Hampton sewer maintenance fee of $2.52 per HCF and sewer surcharge of $4.93 per HCF, billed by Newport News Waterworks for the city. HRSD wastewater treatment: $9.84 per 100 cubic feet from July 1, 2026 (minimum $0.45 a day for metered customers).
Ways to pay less
- Leak credit on a high water bill. Waterworks may, at its discretion, give a bill credit for water lost on your side of the meter, limited to 50% of the water and sewer consumption charges above your 12-month average use. You must find the leak and complete repairs first. How: Request it with the online form within 60 days of the high bill's original due date; a copy of a plumber's invoice or a sales receipt for plumbing supplies is considered acceptable documentation of the repairs.
Dates
| When | What |
|---|---|
| Each water bill due date | Water bill payments must be received by the due date on the bill; a late fee of 10% a month on the delinquent charges, or $10 if greater, applies. |
