Electricity: Dominion Energy Virginia

Schedule 1 residential service: $7.58 basic customer charge a month, plus distribution, generation, transmission and fuel charges per kWh and the riders in the Exhibit of Applicable Riders. Generation above 800 kWh costs 4.6243¢ per kWh in June through September and 2.6965¢ in October through May. The City of Fairfax residential electricity tax is $1.05 plus $0.01136 per kWh, up to $2.25 a month.

Gas: Washington Gas

Virginia Rate Schedule No. 1 residential service, on an interim basis for service rendered on and after December 30, 2025: $15.50 system charge a month and a distribution charge of 68.66¢ per therm. Virginia residential purchased gas cost, October 2026: $0.6461 per therm; it changes monthly. The City of Fairfax residential natural gas tax is $1.05 plus $0.05709 per CCF, up to $2.25 a month.

Ways to pay less

  • Low income: Dominion Energy PIPP sets your electric bill by income. Households with income up to 150% of the federal poverty level pay a monthly electric bill based on income: 10% of income if they heat with electricity, 6% with another heat source. How: Apply through the Virginia Department of Social Services at commonhelp.virginia.gov, or in person, by mail or by fax through your local Department of Social Services.
