Is Tamarac in the red?

Cities must pass a balanced budget, so "profit" and "deficit" mean something different here. The useful questions: does the city's everyday money (the general fund) cover its everyday costs, how much does it keep in savings compared with its own target, and how big are its pension and debt bills.

General fund, FY2026-27$99.2MOut of $229M across all city funds, which includes utilities and other money that can only be spent on one thing. City of Tamarac · Sep 23, 2026
Savings shrank, FY2025 (audited)−$6.3MGeneral fund revenue $87.2M, spending $64.9M. City of Tamarac · Jun 3, 2026

Savings against the city's own target

Unassigned general fund balance: $36.5M (2025-09-30). The city's own target: Keep an unrestricted general fund balance of at least two months of yearly spending (16.67%), including transfers out. Separate set-asides include a $3 million disaster reserve and a $5 million economic development reserve. The city meets this target. City of Tamarac · Jun 3, 2026

Pension promises not yet funded$-27.9M(2025-09-30). City of Tamarac · Jun 3, 2026
Debt owed$47.8MGeneral government $29.9M (revenue bonds $18.5M, redevelopment note $11.5M). Water and sewer revenue bonds $17.9M. 2025-09-30. City of Tamarac · Jun 3, 2026

Why we skip the "budgeted deficit": many cities plan to dip into savings, then spend less than planned. The audited result tells you what really happened.
