Fort Walton Beach property tax: where it goes

A Fort Walton Beach house pays 1.374% of its taxable value in property tax. For a house at $321,800 of market value with the homestead exemption, that's about $3,855 a year.

Tax is levied on assessed value set by the Okaloosa County Property Appraiser, less exemptions; after the first year a home receives a homestead exemption and is assessed at just value, its assessment cannot rise more than 3% or the change in CPI, whichever is less (Save Our Homes).

The Okaloosa County Property Appraiser's 2026 millage table and the School District's site could not be read (both block scripted access). The school rate (5.3270 mills) is the 2026 proposed rate the City of Destin's adopted FY 2027 budget lists (Sept. 1, 2026); a final rate cannot be higher than the proposed one. The City rate (4.5600) was adopted on Sept. 29, 2026; the County (3.8308) and NWFWMD (0.0201) rates are from their adopted FY 2026-27 budgets.
