Is Davie in the red?

Cities must pass a balanced budget, so "profit" and "deficit" mean something different here. The useful questions: does the city's everyday money (the general fund) cover its everyday costs, how much does it keep in savings compared with its own target, and how big are its pension and debt bills.

Why we skip the "budgeted deficit": many cities plan to dip into savings, then spend less than planned. The audited result tells you what really happened.

Questions to ask your council

  1. The town's audited report says expenses are growing faster than revenues. With a $236.1 million general fund budget for FY2026-27, what is the plan to close that gap?
  2. The police pension plan was 88.24% funded, with a $32.0 million shortfall. What is the schedule to close it?
  3. The town administrator's contract runs through December 18, 2026 and then renews a year at a time. Will the council publish his current salary?

The fiscal year starts Oct. 1. Fire, solid waste and stormwater assessments are set at a separate hearing (Sept. 14, 2026). The council tentatively approved the FY2027 budget at a first public hearing on Sept. 3, 2026 and adopted it at the second on Sept. 16, 2026. See who is running for council
