Castle Rock property tax: where it goes
A Castle Rock house pays 0.473% of its taxable value in property tax. For a house at $652,900 of market value, that's about $3,088 a year.
Tax is levied on actual value times the residential assessment rate (6.25% for local government, 7.05% for school districts for tax year 2025), times the mill levy.
Douglas County's taxing authorities set mill levies each December, so the 2026 levies (billed in late January 2027) are not set yet; we use the 2025 levies on the bills paid in 2026.

Ways to pay less
- Seniors 65+ who have owned and lived in the home 10+ years: senior property tax exemption. The senior exemption takes 50 percent of the first $200,000 off the taxable value of a qualifying home; the state reimburses local taxing entities. Once approved it stays in place until the home changes ownership. How: Apply to the Douglas County Assessor between January 1 and July 15.
- Veterans rated 100% permanent and total disabled: property tax exemption. For qualifying disabled veterans, 50 percent of the first $200,000 of the actual value of their primary residence is exempted, and the state reimburses the county treasurer. How: Apply to the Douglas County Assessor between January 1 and July 15.
- Owners 65+ or called to active military service: defer property taxes. Colorado residents 65 or older and people called into active military service may postpone paying property taxes on their home. How: Apply to the Douglas County Treasurer between January 1 and April 1; apply again each year.
- Replace old toilets: up to $150 each. Castle Rock Water rebates the cost of an ultra-high-efficiency toilet rated 0.8 gallons per flush or less, up to $150 per toilet and up to four toilets per address, excluding installation, taxes and shipping. How: Fill in the Toilet Retrofit Rebate Application online form; the old toilet is turned in to Castle Rock Water.
