Ways to pay less
- Seniors 65+: SRVUSD parcel tax exemption. A parcel owned and occupied by a person 65 or older is exempt from the school district's $144-a-year Measure Q parcel tax on application; income-qualified owners receiving SSI or SSDI for a disability can also be exempt. You file only once, unless you move to another home in the district. How: Seniors: the Senior Citizen Exemption Form must be received by May 31 for the upcoming tax year; you must be 65 by July 1, live in the home as your primary residence and have the homeowners' exemption (HEX). SSI/SSDI recipients use the SSI/SSDI Exemption Form.
- Seniors, blind or disabled: postpone property taxes. The State Controller's Property Tax Postponement program lets eligible homeowners postpone payment of current-year property taxes on their primary residence. How: Go to www.ptp.sco.ca.gov, call (800) 952-5661 or email postponement@sco.ca.gov.
