Who supplies power and gas to Huntington Beach houses and what a typical house uses: about 523 kWh of electricity and 35 therms of gas a month. The city adds a 5% utility users tax.
Electricity: Southern California Edison
SCE Domestic rate with SCE generation, from SCE's joint rate comparison with OCPA: $0.38865 per kWh in total (generation $0.11761 + delivery $0.27104), an average monthly bill of $203.26 at 523 kWh; SCE rates as of June 1, 2026. SCE's Base Services Charge is $24.15 a month for customers not in CARE, FERA or affordable-housing programs; customers on the Domestic Multifamily Accommodation rate (Schedule DM) are exempt. Huntington Beach customers returned from OCPA to SCE service in 2024.

Gas: SoCalGas
SoCalGas's August 2026 average non-CARE residential bill was $68.91 a month, based on a typical 35 therms; its bundled residential average rate (gas transportation, Public Purpose Program surcharge and gas commodity) fell from $2.09 to $2.00 per therm in August, and commodity rates change monthly. SoCalGas's non-CARE residential fixed charge was $0.16 per day as of September 2025.

Ways to pay less
- Low-income seniors 62+: half-price trash and no utility tax. Low-income seniors age 62 and over can apply for a 50% discounted trash rate and for exemption from the City's utility users tax on water, electricity, phone, cable and gas bills.
