Alarm systems, local alarm rules, and your internet bill
Monitoring costs $20 to $60 a month, and false alarms can cost far more than that if you don't know the local rules. Internet is usually the easiest bill to cut with one phone call.

Low-income plans
Xfinity Internet Essentials: $14.95/month (75 Mbps) or $29.95 (100 Mbps). Access from AT&T: for households in a qualifying program or below 200% of the poverty line.
Cupertino's 2.4% utility users' tax applies to phone service (including VoIP) but not internet access, which federal law bars taxing. If your bundle doesn't split out the internet charge, the whole bill can be taxed. Residents 65+ can apply for an exemption.
