St. Matthews property tax: where it goes

A St. Matthews house pays 1.321% of its taxable value in property tax. For a house at $338,000 of market value, that's about $4,466 a year.

Tax is levied on assessed value set by the Jefferson County PVA at fair market value as of January 1, less any exemptions, taxed per $100 of value.

State rate (10.3 cents) is the 2026 rate. Metro's general rate (11.64 cents; 32.76 cents Urban Services District, which does not apply here) is the rate Metro Council passed in September 2026. The school board's 2026-27 rate had not been posted by the Jefferson County PVA or Sheriff when we checked, so the school part uses the 2025 rate of 71.7 cents per $100. The city's $.20 rate and the 18.5-cent St. Matthews / Lyndon fire rate (2025 PVA schedule) are the latest we could find; no 2026 city or fire district rate was posted.
