Shelbyville property tax: where it goes
A Shelbyville house pays 1.264% of its taxable value in property tax. For a house at $257,100 of market value, that's about $3,248 a year.
Tax is levied on 100% fair cash value as of January 1, assessed by the Shelby County PVA, taxed per $100 of assessed value.
The state (10.3 cents per $100), Shelby County Fiscal Court (8.8 cents, approved August 18, 2026 for 2026-2027) and City of Shelbyville (24.6 cents, on the city bills mailed September 30, 2026) rates are 2026 rates. Shelby County Public Schools (71.4 cents) is the 2025 rate: in August 2026 the board proposed keeping it, and we did not find the final vote. The extension, health, landfill, library and soil conservation rates are 2025 rates from the Kentucky Department of Revenue's rate book, because 2026 rates for them were not posted when we checked.
